In need of a proper health boost? A pick-me-up that simply bursts with flavour and colour? This smoothie is high in natural sugars and will give you an instant energy boost. The addition of oats will keep that energy going, while the magical properties of ginger will give your immune system a boost!

Ginger, super food for super training

This flowery plant native to South Asia contains powerful anti-inflammatory compounds called gingerols. According to a study in the Journal of Pain, ginger acts as a pain reliever and anti-inflammatory without the negative side effects of normal pain relievers! In addition to getting you back into the gym quickly, ginger could also help keep unwanted pounds off. A 2012 study at Columbia University, published in the journal Metabolism, discovered that participants who ingested two grams of powdered ginger reported feeling fuller three hours later than those who didn’t consume the powder.

Blueberry, possibly the ultimate super food

Some nutritionists believe that if you make only one change to your diet, it should be to add blueberries. Want to know why? How about the Neurobiology of Aging study that found that blueberries have a beneficial effect on brain aging. Or the fact the compound pterostilbene is also believed to protect the heart in the same way as cholesterol-lowering drugs. And what about resveratrol, which is believed to have an anti-cancer effect. All of that sort of makes the rumour that blueberries also reduce wrinkles seem slightly insignificant!
