There is nothing quite as comforting as the smell of apple, sugar and cinnamon baking in the oven. Make a few apples in one go: baked apple is a beautiful addition to a basic porridge recipe or leave it to come to room temperature and have it as a sweet mid-afternoon snack to boost your fading energy.
Any variety of apple works well for this recipe; choose depending on your taste. Personally I prefer the tarter versions like granny smith to the sweeter apples such as golden delicious or Fuji.
An apple a day keeps the doctor away
Sometimes old wives tales carry a fundamental truth and apples certainly help towards keeping the doctor away. High in dietary fiber, but relatively modest in calories, apples are a filling snack. In numerous epidemiological studies, apples have been associated with a decreased risk of chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, and asthma. Apples contain a wide variety of phytochemicals, many of which have been found to have strong antioxidant activity and anticancer activity.
